Note: MARY ROXIE GALLIGAR WAS BORN IN EUSTIS, NEBRASKA. THE FAMILY THEN MOVED BACK TO SOUTH DAKOTA.
ROXIE WAS 8 YEARS OLD, WHEN HER GRANDMOTHER, GOT SICK AND WENT INTO THE HOSPITAL WITH PNEUMONIA.
ROXIE REMEMBERS THAT THE SCHOOL THAT THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO ATTEND IN SULLY COUNTY, HAD BURNED DOWN, SO THE FAMILY MOVED INTO ONIDA, SO THAT THE TWO OLDEST CHILDREN COULD ATTEND SCHOOL. THEY LIVED TO FAR AWAY TO TRY AND WALK TO SCHOOL, EVERYDAY. JOHN AND ROXIE AND HELEN WERE ALL READY TO START SCHOOL, BUT HELEN WASN'T ALLOWED TO GO THE FIRST YEAR, BECAUSE THE FAMILY FELT LIKE 2 KIDS GOING INTO FIRST GRADE WOULD BE ENOUGH. HELEN BEGAN FIRST GRADE THE NEXT YEAR.
ROXIE WAS 18 WHEN HER MOTHER AND FATHER DIVORCED IN IDAHO.
