Obituary found in Onida Watchman: Grim Reaper calls another Pioneer John Galliger died from cancer of the stomach at age of 70: came here in 1883: Laid to rest at Pierre. From time to time death calls the roll for pioneers and especially Father time more frequently comes and whispers that for pioneers the end of the journey is near at hand. So with John Galliger this week. He came to Sully county in 1883, at least that is the time when many of our good reliable old time friends remember him. He came here to stay, weathered the ups and downs of the country, endured drought and terrible cold winters of the early days when fuel was scarce and human dwellings none too warmly built. Mr Galliger was one of those who never quit, never doubted the future of Sully county, but with a firm faith well founded in this section, he was not deceived. He weathered all storms and was happy that he had cast his lot in Sully county. Coming from a family that was accustomed to go out to sea in ships, in Rhode Island, Mr Galliger exchanged the sea for Sully county prairies and here brought up his family near the neck of the Little Bend in western Sully County. He enjoyed a nice visit from his brother just a few weeks ago and had intended to visit the old home ere long when death bade him stay where he was. He is survived by his life mate and two sons, Tommie and William, the latter being married, and both living near the old home. Funeral services were held from the Catholic church one day last week and the body interred in the Pierre Cemetery. Amongst the things that was left behind was a postcard photo of a lady and her husband. On the back of the photo is a letter, it says " Dear Uncle this is a picture of Nellie and her husband. Love your neice, Mrs F.W. Weiss 152 Rugby St Providence, RI There is a Nellie Galligan whom married Frederick W. Weiss in RI., May 10, 1900. They had a son in 1901. He died a day after being born. Nellie died Aug 25, 1913 in Bristol, MA.
