a. Note:   GRANVEL E. HALE BORN DEC 25, 1924 IN SUMMERS, ARKANSAS TO GEORGE HALE AND MARY E. LOVELL. GRANVEL WAS PULLED OUT OF SCHOOL AT A YOUNG AGE TO HELP AT HOME WITH THE CHORES AND THE FARM. Gene's older brother, Henry took over as head of the household when there father passed away. Gene remembers how his brother would tie him up to a poll so that Gene could reach the lever to pull at the saw mill. GRANVEL DID NOT GO INTO THE MILITARY. WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR HIM TO REGISTER FOR THE DRAFT. HIS OLDER BROTHER, WENT AND TOLD THE DRAFT BOARD, THAT THEY NEEDED HIM TO WORK IN THE SAW MILL or to be at home with their mother, since Henry was going into WW1. GRANVEL WAS ALLOWED TO NOT REGISTER FOR THE DRAFT. 1930 census Eugene is 5 years old and living with his mother and father in Price Twp, Washington Co., Arkansas. Granvel told a story many times of how growing up in Arkansas as a little boy, he would hide behind the trees and watch the kkk. He said that one time he watched from behind a tree in the woods, they took a man, tied him to a tree, tarred and featherd the man and hung him. My dad recalled how scared he had been. He also told many storys about pretty boy floyd and how he had attended the funeral. Granvel Eugene Hale lived in Summers, Arkansas and later moved to Stinette, Texas. He than moved to Idaho. He lived in New Plymouth with his first wife and children. They divorced and Gene moved back to Texas where he met his second wife, Betty. Together they moved back to Idaho. Gene and Betty later divorced and Betty returned to Texas. Gene than married Harriet Galligar. They moved to Payette, Idaho in 1966. They lived there for 18 years. Gene was a member of the Church of the Nazerene while living in Payette. Gene worked as a foreman for the Ontario road district for many years. Before that he ran the Sinclair Service Station in Payette, Idaho. They than moved to Cupertino, California where Gene passed away. Gene loved Mechanic's, Carpentry, fishing and hunting. ENTERED TO REST ON TUESDAY OCT 19, 1993 IN CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA. SERVICES WERE HELD AT CHAPEL OF THE ROSES IN PAYETTE, IDAHO. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 23, 1993 AT 2:00 P.M. OFFICIATING PASTOR: RUSSELL RITCHIE PALLBEARERS: MARK GALLIGAR, BILL GALLIGAR, JOE GALLIGAR, TOM COLLINGWOOD, JOHN IRBY, ROCKIE JONES. BURIED AT PARKVIEW CEMETERY, NEW PLYMOUTH, IDAHO FOUND IN FAMILY BIBLE BELONGING TO MARY E. HALE, A POEM SENT FROM GRACE HALE PARKER, TO EVANGELIST FRED D. HUCKELBURY. NOT SURE IF HE IS RELATED TO HALE FAMILY OR NOT. ALSO BURIED OUT AT THE PARKVIEW CEMETARY IN NEW PLYMOUTH, IS EDVIN HALE, GRACE HALE, AND GUY P. HALE. GUY IS GRANVEL NEPHEW. Death certificate for Gene son, list his name as Eugene Hale. And is signed Eugene Hale. He might of went by Eugene when living in Arkansas. Lived in Praire Grove, Arkansas at time of son, Don birth.
