Note: Mattie was born in Philadelphia, PA. The family moved to Camden when she was a young girl. She attended Camden City Schools eventually graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. She worked for the Camden Housing Authority, starting as a time keeper, then she became manager of Branch Village, a housing project, and eventually became Manager of Tenant Selection for the entire Camden Housing Project Department. She was active in Kaighns Ave Baptist Church being life long treasurer of the club "Forget them Not". She was an avid reader and deeply loved her family. After marrying Bill Chapman they lived on MT. Vernon St. She eventually bought a house at 1967 Park Blvd. in Camden's Parkside area for $11,000.00. Mattie loved to travel and eventually had travelled to most major European Countries, Africa and Caribbean Islands.
