Notes
a. Note:   Amelia (Millie) was born in Farmville, Virginia. Her brother George Cole moved to Camden and made a fair amount of money selling wood. He sent for Millie who felt that she had come to a new world when she came north. She was a midwife who delivered many of her friends children. She delivered George Brown who eventually became the principal of Camden High School. Bessie Chapman relates a story of Millie being brought fish by a local fisherman. She would cook the fish and give some back to the fisherman and neighbors. She became very popular in the neighborhood and pleased the fisherman so that she had more fish than she needed. Millie also loved to eat fruit and would keep fresh fruit under the bed where the children would sneak and eat some. Bessie also remembers when Millie's husband Joseph Jackson died. He is described as being light skinned and "looked like and Italian". The casket was kept in the house for a brief period. She remembers sitting on the couch looking at the casket.
