Served in World War I in the Navy aboard the USS Eagle, a survey ship,in the Caribbean. He was discharged (1917-18) after a diving accidentfrom diving too deep. He reenlisted in the Air Force in 1918, guardingthe War Chest on monument circle, downtown Indpls. First child, EdithLorraine, was born the following spring.

Obit: "Services for Harold D. Peterson, 82, Indpls, will be held at 1p.m. Wednesday in Shirley Brothers Irving Hill Chapel, .... He diedSunday in a lcal nursing home. Mr. Peterson was born at Chicago andlived here [Indpls] for 75 years. A World War I Army veteran, he was aconductor and brakeman for the New York Central and Indpls Union(Belt) railroads more than 20 years, retiring 18 years ago [1962]. Hewas a member of E. 16th Street Christian Church, Marion Masonic Lodgeand Scottish rite. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frank Nauta." Hewas also a member of the VFW.
