Text: Listed as Deceased, at baptism of son Jan Dirck, Oct 3 1708
[Kester Notes]: His father, Jan Dirckszen Van Arnhem VA was an officer under William II, Prince of Oranje, Count of Nassau. He supposedly served with Saloman, brother of Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, who was the subject of the painting "Man in a Golden Helmet".
His mother, Sara Theuniszen Jansen Van Salee, youngest daughter of Barbary Coast Pirate, Anthony [Theunis] Jansen Van Salee who was the son of a Dutch buccaneer, Admiral of the Sultan's Fleet Jan Jansen VanHaarlem (born in Amsterdam about 1588) and a daughter of Mulay Zidan, Sultan of Morocco. Anthony was born in the port of Fez but lived inSale before he immigrated to New Amsterdam in 1630. This tall, dark, and muscular rogue, who was wild and forceful, was known as "The Turk"or as the "Troublesome Turk" in some historical documents. He married Grietje Reyniers, a bar maid from Amsterdam, who had arrived in New Amsterdam in 1633 on the 'Southberg'. History paints them as an extremely colorful couple with questionable reputations. They were involved in many petty slander suits in New Amsterdam, which ultimately resulted in their being banished to Long Island. However, their four daughters were quite respectable and married into prominent families, in Sara's case the Van Arnhem family.

Notes for JAN JANSE Van Arnhem VA:
He was a lumberman on L. Champlain, St. Lawrence and Sorels River. He was a Loyalist. All of his children were born in Albany, N.Y. Was supposedly in Rensselearwyck in 1642. Early American Families list his name as Van Arnheim.
Note: "The family and descendants lived in Guilderland, Albany, NY. By early 1700s, the last name had become Van Aernam VA." L. Schulze
