  Parents of Jannetje Van Salsbergen:
Jannetje bp 6 July 1701, Dutch Ref Church at Albany as follows:
1701 July 6; Jannetje, of Hendrick and Cornelia Van Salsberry.Wit.: Emanuel and Rebecca Van Schayk.
{note: Hendrick Van Salsbergen married 6 Nov 1698 Cornelia Claasz VanSchaick (born circa 1672), dau of Niclass Vanschaick & JannetjeCornelis Laurens of Kinderhook, Columbia Co, NY
1698 Nov 6; Hendrik Jansz Van Sasberry, y.m. and Cornelia Claasz VanSchaak, wid of Hans Juriaansz (Becker), both of Claverack. [Record ofDRC Albany].
Emanuel VanSchaak was the brother of Jannetje's mother, Cornelia (VanSchaak) Van Salsbergen. Rebecca VanSchaack more than likely wasCornelia VanSchaak's sister-in-law (married to her eldest brother,Dominicus and probably widowed by time of Jannetje's birth - alsolikely that her next oldest surviving brother would sponsor herdaughter named in the Dutch custom after her mother.
To also support Jannetje's parentage - the 1st born son (HENDRICK)named for her father, Hendrik Jansz and 2nd born daughter named forher mother (CORNELIA). Also, the 2nd Hendrick VanArnhem VA baptisedwas witnessed by Hendrick Van Salsbergen & Jannetje Goes possibly"Anna" mentioned in the will of Jan Tyse Goes (Hoes) of Kinderhook &his 2nd wife, Styntje Janse Van Hoesen. Jany Tyse Goes' will was made1696/97 and he died (according to Pearson's, First Settlers of AlbanyMay 31, 1705. Also, note that Jannetje's half brother, Arend JanseBecker married Catharina Van Hoesen who possibly was somehow connectedto Stynie Janse Van Hoesen - - - or maybe Jannetje GOES was just aclose friend of the family and well respected in the community.
Researched and compiled by Barbara Jeffries: The original surname ofthis family is questionable.
In the first record that I found it was spelled VAN SASBERRY ? VANSASBERGE ?VAN SASBERGEN. Later it became VAN SALSBERGE ? VANSALSBERGER ? VAN SALSBERGEN ? VAN SALTZBERGER - VAN SALSBURY ? VANSALSBERRY ? VAN SALISBURY and sometimes minus the VAN.
