  "m. Mary Short, daughter of William and Mary ( ) Short of Surry County. Wi lliam Short�s 1757 will mentions his daughter Mary Poythress, her husba nd Joshua Poythress, and three of their children. Joshua Poythress was cap tain of a packet ship that plied between London, Glasgow and Petersbur g. He left a will, now lost, but referred to in a 1790 deed from his son W illiam to Peachy. (See William 211 2)."
