Write up with Trial Chart of the Descendants of Francis Poythress Prepar ed April 1977 by R. Bolling Batte found in Virginia State Library, Archiv es Division Accession Number 29493 transcribed by John M. Poythress:
  281 Peter Poythress
(1715 - 1785), m. c. 1756 Elizabeth Bland (1733-1792), daughter of Richa rd and Anne (Poythress 271) Bland of "Jordans", Prince George County. Pet er Poythress resided at
"Branchester" in Prince George. He represented that county in all sessio ns of the House of Burgesses from 1768 through the last in 1776. He was al so a member of both the 1775 and 1776 conventions. Peter and Elizabeth (Bl and) Poythress had one son and eight daughters, through whom they have ma ny descendants.
 -----------------------------------------------
See Poythress, Card 145 (the last of the 4 images for this Peter) to under stand birth order, letter order, and number order. These do not follow t he usual pattern.
Mr. Batte's Poythress, Card 1 indicates Peter was "142 CAB" on many of h is descendant's cards. It would appear that early in his study, Mr. Bat te saw this Peter as a descendant of the other Peter, but then revised i t. As Peter's descendants' cards bear all manner of designations, th is is important to keep in mind.
At some point, Mr. Batte adopted the (P-1) system and ordered this Pet er as "BHA" and his uncle, Peter, who was "142 C", became "BG". As th is Peter married a descendant of the first Peter, descendants can an d, in fact, are idenitified with either BG or BH. This makes tracking d escendents tricky to say the least. But most often they begin BH, a nd BG is more often reserved for the other children of Anne Poythress, wi fe of Richard Bland, and daughter of Peter (BG).
