Mary Gilliam, daughter of John and Jane (Hen ry) Gilliam of Pr. Geo. William Poythress was a captain in the Continent al Army during the Revolution. He was the principle beneficiary of the 17 79 will of Thomas Epes 132 32. In 1790 William Poythress deeded to Willi am S. Peachy the same 300 acres of Flowerdew Hundred, previously mentione d, that John Hardyman had conveyed by deed of gift to the first Joshua Poy thress and had by the latter been devised to the second Joshua, who ha d, in turn, devised the same to his son William, the present grantor. Will iam also owned a tract of 863 acres on Simmons Branch upon which he had be en living at the time he died. It is probable that the youngest of the sons had reached legal age by th at time. William Poythress may have been buried there.
