Note: Descendants of John Holte, By Brian Evans: Steven Manning lists b. about 1689 and d. about 1785. Lists children as James, Ambrose, and Plunkett. Charles Holt's Genealogy states that Plunkett was placed under the guardianship of David Holt, a half-brother, when Richard Holt died in 1698. He lists children as Richard, Plunkett, Jr., Francis and Ambrose, and possibly other brothers Edward and James. The family lived in Essex, Spotsylvania, Caroline, Amelia and Prince Edward Counties, Virginia. Plunkett was about 9 years old when his father died. He left half his land to Plunkett. Plunkett's stepbrothers Robert and David were made his guardians. (Robert died 5 years later, in 1698.) Between 1695 and 1699, the VA County Court Records-Order book Abstracts of Essex County VA 1695-1699, states "Plimeket Holt is bound unto James Boughan until he arrives to ye age of one and twenty years, ye sd Boughan obliging himself to give ye sd Holt two years schooling when he comes to ye age of ten or eleven years." In1713, Plunkett sold his interest in his father's land to James Boughan. Between 1724 and 1742, various court records mention Plunkett in connection with “being absent from his Parrish Church during the months of February, March and April", failure to appear in court for debts assessed to him, and for trespass. (VA Genealogy, Vol. 25, p. 289) "Plunkett Holt, 13 lbs 2.11 Dead; left sufficient estate in Prince Edward to pay all his debts, which is in the hands of his sons James and Plunkett Holt.". British Mercantile Claims 1775-1803, p. 83, t79/89. Need further research: Joan Ifland believes Plunkett Harraway Holt's mother may not have been Margaret Plunkett, but a daughter of Plunkett Harroway/Hardaway. There was a Plunket Harroway. Several records list Plunkett Harroway Holt. Margaret could have been Margaret Harroway and Plunkett might be named for her father. However, a Plunkett family lived near the Holt's in Caroline Co. in the 1740s. A Journey to Christmasville, By Don Graves Holt, ED.D <mailto:sabh42@bellsouth.net> As previously discussed, Plunkett and his brother William, only known children of Richard and Margaret, were minors when Richard died in 1693. Plunkett was born between 1688 and 1691 and in 1698 he was bound to James Boughan as an indentured servant, something not too common in the history of this family. 1698, July 13. Essex County. Plimeket Holt is bound unto James Boughan until he arrives to ye age of one and twenty years, ye sd Boughan obliging himself to give ye sd Holt two years schooling when he comes to ye age of ten or eleven years. Boughan was a neighbor of the Holts who lived in South Farnam Parish, Essex County. There are several land transactions between various Holt members and Boughan documented in the Essex County records: Plunkett's older brothers David and Richard, Jr. sold and bought several tracts of land involving Boughan during the minority of Plunkett. James Boughan frequently is described in those legal documents as James Boughan, Gent of South Farnam Parish, a title usually reserved to those of wealth or position. In 1712, Plunkett being "ye age of one and twenty years", sold 620 acres on Piscataway Creek to James Boughan, Sr. 1712, March 12, Essex County. Plunket Holt of South Farnam Parish, son and devisee of Richard Holt dec'd, to James Boughan Sr, 620 AC on Piscataway Creek, land granted to Richard Holt dec'd by patent November 4, 1685.
