Notes
a. Note:   The 1870 North Carolina Census, for the County of Northampton near the township of Seaboard, N.C. carries information on a Eton Smith, age 33. That would put his birthday about 1837, JOHN E. SMITH
The 1870 US Census for the county of Northampton, NC, Township of
Seaboard, Page Number 677, has a listing for: Smith, Eaton - Wife Martha, Male named John Smith age 2, Female named Harriett Bass age 13, Male named William Bass age 10 and Jessie Harris age 15.
The little town of Seaboard is located on NC State Rt. 186 parallel to the CS X Railroad Line which was The Atlantic Coast Line Railway. This fact leads the family to believe this particular Eaton Smith was probably our great-grandfather. The male, John Smith could therefore be our grandfather - John Eden Smith who is supposed to have been born January 18, 1869. By the time this census was taken, he could have easily been two years old. Some records show John's middle initial as "B".
