Note: According to Essex County records Sthreshely was married in 1815 when he was about 27 years old. The same records indicate there were two gentlemen named Sthreshley Taylor living in Essex County during the early part of the 1800's. One married Patsy Riddle [in 1824] and my great great grandfather was married in December 1815 to Aphrey Moody. Court records often contain the name of one or another of these Taylor men, but unless carefully examined it's easy to get certain facts assigned to the wrong individual. In 1823 - Deed Book 41, Pg. 137, we find Sthreshley Tayalor and Aphrey Moody along with Jameson Moody (and his wife Mary Susan Langford), and Hundley Moody (and his wife Elizabeth) Larkin Moody (and his wife France), Betsy Moody (wife of Samuel Woodson of Powhatan), Carter Moody, (and his wife Sarah of Chesterfield), Nancy Moody, George Moody (and his wife Nancy of Chesterfiled) sell land which was allotted to their sister, Molly Moody by their father, Lewis Moody. This land was bounded by: on side of road leading from Garnett;s Mill to Tappahannck to corner of George Moody, Lewis Dix dec'd to Moody & Latane. 1809 Deed Book #37 on Page 538 in Essex County Courthouse, reveals that Sthreshley Taylor along with Elizabeth Taylor (husband - Lewis Davis), Polly Taylor {husband - Jackson Dyke), Lucy Taylor (husband - Phillip Davis), Sally Taylor (who married Robert Samuel)) and,Tamzon Taylor (who married John Beasley) "sell 211 acres to David W. Pitts who died 1837." The land being inherited by them from their father, Samuel Taylor who died 1791 and who was the son of John Taylor, Sr. and brother of John Taylor, Jr. and grandson of William Taylor who died in1763. The land was bounded by: Walliam Garnett, Armstrong Noel, Mrs. Sally Pitts (D.W} Pitts' mother), William Faulconer and main road from Tappahannnock to Lloyds. David W. Pitts built a house on this property by 1820 and the land was inherited by the brother of David W. Pitts, who died single in 1860. The October 26, 1871 (Volume 6 No.43) issue of The Religious Herald carried Obituaries on Aphrey and Streshley Taylor,, but spelled his name without the "S" as " Threshley" Taylor. According to a 1953 letter from Charles A. Taylor, Jr (and other family members) Sthreshley is buried in a cemetery on "the old place" in Essex County. His wife Aphrey Moody wife is also noted to have been buried in this same cemetery. I have found this granite stone marker the field behind the home. This property is currently part of the original Paynefield plantatation on Mt Landing-Rexburg road.
