Note: Lili's mother owned a very large home in Ahoski, NC and like so many other homeowners in the 30's, she rented rooms. Her adoptive daughter Betsy recalls her grandmother's home had a large bedroom downstairs and five bedrooms on the second floor. Each room had two full-sized beds, but no closets. This was not unusual in this time. Charles, Lili's future husband, had a small radio repair shop in Ahoski, and rented a room in the Mitchell family home. The dating began here, bloomed and evolved into their marriage in 1937.
