Note: Ater living in Santa Fe, and a trip into Mexico, he and Susan moved to a large estate near Lexington, KY.In 1852 the family moved to Barretts station, Mo. where daughter Susan was born, and soon after her birth, Susan Shelby Magoffin died. By 1848 the Magoffin brothers trading business was worth over one million dollars. They reached Santa Fe in August 1846, after James' mission had been completed, and in October began moving to El Paso, but due to the war did not arrive at their destination until the following February. In March they arrived in Chihuahua, and later moved to Saltillo. In August 1847 they arrived in Monterrey. While there, both General Taylor and General Donihan came to visit them. He may have died in 1868.
