Notes
a. Note:   He was the highest degree Mason. Also mayor of Duluth. When his son Victor died, Virginia and her two daughters Mary, and Jeanne went to Duluth to live with him.
At age 18 he participated with the Canadians in repelling the "Fenian Raiders" and received a medal which reads "Fenian Raid 1866 Victoria Regina Et Imperatrix" on one side and a profile of Queen Victoria on the other side. I own this medal still. He was also presented with a 160 acre tract of land in the Canadian wilderness. Many years later my grandfather Victor Hugo visited the area. It turned out to be swamp land, and quite worthless.
T.W.Hugo Masonic Lodge in Duluth was named in his honor for at the time of his death he held the highest ranking degrees in Masonry in the U.S.
After his death his diaries and other memorabelia were donated to the Duluth Historical Society and after my aunt Mary died, the Masonic Lodge in Duluth received his massive roll top desk and the glass pane from the front door with the Hugo crest and motto on it.
