Note:   1985 Obituary - "Daily Progress", Charlottesville, Virginia - October 23, 1985 - Mrs. Pearl Ward Lipes, 81, of Charlottesville, died Tuesday. Oct. 22, 1985, in a local nursing home. Born in Albemarle Co. on Nov. 23, 1903, she was the daughter of the late John Minor and Cora Thomas Sprouse. and the wife of the late John W. Lipes. Mrs. Lipes was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Bush of Charlottesville and Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Smith of Louisa; one son, Roy Ward of Charlottesville; three sisters, Ruby Baldwin, Blanche Garrison, both of Richmond, and Nellie Davis of Free Union; two brothers, Louis A. Sprouse of Richmond and Ellis A. Sprouse of Crozet; 16 grandchildren and 28 great grand-children. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday at the Teague & Hawkins Chapel with the Rev. James Johnson officiating. Interment will follow Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home, 2260 Ivy Road.
