 Research Notes:
From Sam Towler's new book, which may or may not help you:
Minute Book 1859-1862, page 360. Satisfactory evidence given that Catharine Sprouce is the widow of John Sprouce of Capt. B. Taylor's Company in the 19th regiment commanded by Col. John B. Strange. He was wounded in a battle near Richmond and died in a hospital in Charlottesville. Also, satisfactory evidence given that D.M. Sprouce, private in Capt. Wyant's Company of 56th Va regiment died of disease in Albemarle on July 15, 1861. He received a furlough on June 30, 1861. Dicey Ann Sprouce is the widow.
Minute Book 28 (1886-1889) Dicie Ann Sprouce appears on a list of widows awarded $30 a year pensions in 1888. (possibly page 265, May 8, Sam's notes are a little obscure.) [Joan Graves email]
