Note: Mary Polly Janes was the daughter of David Janes, Sr. This old David Janes was of the same sort of man as Daniel Boone, the Skaggs family, most of Capt. James Harrod's men and lots of others. They were first of all, hunters, explorers and adventurers. By the time of the raids on Farrises and McKinney's Stations the families were along with the men. I have seen where David Janes lost the title to some land near the McKinney Station but am unable to find my notes on the matter. So far have never found a deed where he owned land but am sure he did have a grant of some sort. Many of these old men turned everything over to their families as they became aged and there was no administration of their property when they died. This was the case with David Janes, Jr. When, in 1844 the County court states he has been "Exonerated from Levy", that meant that he was aged and/or infirmed so he was taken off the poll list and didn't have to pay the county levy or work the roads any more. The only time I see his wife's name is in the record when there was a committee appointed to see to their affairs. That often meant that the family could not settle among themselves the affairs. Then at one time there was a law to pay a small annuity to old, poor people. There are quite a few names here from good families. (Adair County, Kentucky)
