Notes
a. Note:   Ellamanda was confirmed 25 September 1892 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Albrightsville, PA. Ellamanda and Milton were married at St. John's Church at Effort by Rev. F. W. Smith (Monroe Co. marriage license #774). At the time of their marriage in 1893, they were both living at Long Pond, PA.
Ten days after her sister-in-law, Mrs. Roger Meckes of Albrightsville, committed suicide by shooting herself, Ellamanda took her own life by slashing her throat with a razor shortly after 9 o'clock Sunday morning. Ellamanda had been suffering from mental disorders for several years and had to be particularly closely watched since the death of her sister-in-law. Just before the tragedy Mr. Altemose went to a cupboard to get out his shaving materials. He noticed his razor had disappeared, but did not
think anything of it until he saw his wife making her way to a clump of woods in the rear of the house. Before he could reach her she had pulled the razor and with her right hand slashed her throat from the left ear to the right, severing the windpipe and jugular vein. She fell into her husband's arms and expired almost immediately. She was buried in Salem Church cemetery. (Obit in "Morning Sun", 2 May 1927, pg. 1; PA death certificate #49579)
