Note: Subj: McKnight Date: 1/15/2002 11:42:32 PM Pacific Standard Time From: c.e.sims@@worldnet.att.net (Charles Sims) To: vcjfreeman@@aol.com Just want to say thank you for posting on Andrew McKnight and wife Elizabeth Nash and their daughter Ellenor "Nellie" McKnight, her husband and children. This helps much in furthering my efforts at tracing the McKnight line. My primary search of many years is with regard to my Sims ancestry. Perhaps you are already aware that two sibling/brothers of Ellenor "Nellie" McKnight were John McKnight and Thomas McKnight. John was born 6 Aug. 1788 and married Martha Sims about 1812/13 in Laurens Co., S.C. Thomas was born 1 Jan. 1790 and married Mariah Sims about 1817 in Laurens Co., S.C. Martha and Mariah Sims were sibling/sisters and daughters of my gggg grandparents, Clayborn and Martha "Patty" Sims. John and Martha and children as well as Thomas and Mariah and only child all migrated into Georgia and into Henry County. Thomas and Mariah and son remained in Henry County, Georgia. John and Martha and 13 children continued on into Chambers Co., AL. I've managed to collect quite a lot on the families of John and Thomas, but had really nothing about Ellenor "Nellie" McKnight and her family. From the Last Will and Testament of Andrew McKnight and sale of 100 acres for $.01 to son Thomas McKnight it was possible for me to identify some of his children, but still have gaps. John McKnight, while a resident of Chambers County, Alabama had an attorney draft a letter with regard to any pension due his father for service in the Revolutionary War. In that letter John McKnight states that he is the lawful son and heir of Andrew and Elizabeth McKnight. I did manage to obtain a copy of the original letter. There were surely more children born to Andrew McKnight and wife Elizabeth Nash. However, all I've managed to identify is as follows: Andrew McKnight; b. 1780; d. 1843/49 MS. wife: Elizabeth Nesbitt John McKnight; b. 1788; d. 1856 Chambers Co., AL. wife: Martha Sims Thomas McKnight; b. 1790; d. 1835 Henry Co., GA wife: Mariah Sims Hiram McKnight; - no data Ellenor "Nellie" McKnight; b. 1799; d. 1840 Henry Co., GA. husband: Absalom "Hawk" Nixon Note: the data above on Ellenor "Nellie" McKnight and husband is from your posting. Thanks. I'm also attempting to determine if Andrew McKnight and wife Abigail of Laurens Co., S.C. were the parents of Andrew McKnight above that married Elizabeth Nash. The Last Will and Testament of Andrew McKnight that married Abigail was written and recorded in Laurens Co., S.C. In the Will he names wife Abigail, and daughters Abigail and Jennet as well as sons Andrew and Archibald. Ref: Laurens Co., S.C. Will Book A-1, p. 15 (8 Feb. 1789) Would appreciate a reply and your comments. Sincerely, Charles E. Sims c.e.sims@@worldnet.att.net ================ Subj: Re: Mcknight Date: 7/10/02 8:28:22 PM Pacific Daylight Time From: c.e.sims@@worldnet.att.net To: VCJFreeman@@aol.com, ferst1@@main-net.com Hello Valerie and Shirley, I'm attaching a file of data and reference to sources of deeds and wills from Laurens Co., S.C. which you may find helpful in proving relationships and family interactions. Hiram Sims was my ggg grandfather and he was the father of Martha and Mariah Sims. Martha married John McKnight; Mariah married Thomas McKnight. As you will observe on my pg. 3 of 4; Laurens Co., S.C. Deed Book "K" p. 223; Andrew McKnight acquired land in 1818 that was bounded on by Absalom Nixon. The family of Absalom "Hawk" Nixon and wife Ellenor "Nellie" (McKnight) Nixon seems well documented in a report on the internet. I've not personally traced this family as it is not my own. However, wife, Ellenor "Nellie" (McKnight) Nixon is certainly a sibling/sister to the children of Andrew McKnight; b. abt. 1753 in VA. and wife Elizabeth (Nash) McKnight; b. abt. 1751 VA. Most of the early records of Laurens Co., S.C. remain intact and are an excellent source of information. They have proven my Sims and Abercrombie and Lindley ancestry in that area. Also show connections to Nash, Babb, Kellet, etc. Hope this may be of some use to your research. Sincerely, Charles E. Sims c.e.sims@@worldnet.att.net
