Mike Goodson * Subject: Re: Jim Shaw Nixon Date: 1/2/2005 8:45:21 PM Pacific Standard Time From: Llassiter79 Reply To: To: VCJFreeman Thank you for your condolences. My grandmother was a very wonderful woman, and I miss her terribly already. In the last few years, her short term memory had slipped, but she spoke of her childhood in AL constantly. You are correct, my ancestry does go back to Absolom Nixon in Roanoke, AL. About 8 or 9 years ago, a first cousin of my father's gave me a print out of the family history (lost in a closet somewhere). It ended with Absolom Nixon in Randolph County, AL. My father was the oldest of seven children and was born in AL outside of Wedowee(?) His grandfather was Andrew Marion Nixon. My grandparents met in AL in a textile mill. She lived in Welch, AL near Rock Mill. It seems that the relative doing the research, who is now deceased, found information that Absolom was a Cherokee Indian who married a Sherrer? white woman and was not found on the indian rolls. It seems Absolom also appeared twice on a very early census---in AL and SC, so that was as far back as he could go. All of this is just from my memory of conversations with him and with my grandma. Because I teach school, I have to keep control of my genealogy passion until summer. It is difficult to ascertain many of the AL records because of a courthouse fire, but I will look for the Nixon tree. I love genealogy. I have traced my roots on my mother's side back to England in the 900s. Recently I received my number and membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. My son is in the navy and stationed in Washington with the cermonial guard. I plan to visit Washington in February and do some searching in Constitution Hall--the DAR library. If I find something I will send it to you. My name is Lorraine Nixon Lassiter, P.O. Box 275, Barnesville, GA 30204. If you have any files you could send, please mail me a copy. If you will send my your address, I will do the same. Sincerely, Lorraine Lassiter
