  Mr. George Heard Nixon Jr., 87, of Griffin, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2008, at Brightmoor Nursing Center.
  Mr. Nixon was born in Spalding County to the late George H. Nixon Sr. and the late Irene Thomas Nixon. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Lucile McLean, Ruth Pierce, Irene Tootsie Ballew, and Annie Pearl Lewis, and a brother, John "Fat" Nixon. Mr. Nixon married Vivian Atkinson in 1938 and was baptized in the late 1940s at East Griffin Baptist Church. He later enjoyed the television ministry of First Baptist Church. Mr. Nixon attended services at Brightmoor by Crestview Baptist Church. Mr. Nixon owned and operated a service station on Memorial Drive from 1956 until 1987, then ran the Forum Drive-in and a theater in Forsyth with his son until 1996. He coached his grandsons in little league, and at one time was an umpire for the Mill Baseball League.
  Survivors include his wife, Vivian Atkinson Nixon of Griffin; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Linda Nixon of Griffin; grandchildren, Nick Nixon of Clarkston, Elinor Rice of Douglasville, and Tim Brown of Alpharetta; great-grandchildren, Megan and Caleb Rice; and several nieces and nephews.
  Graveside services for Mr. George H. Nixon will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008, in the old section of Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Landham will officiate. Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make a donation to the Youth Mission Trips, c/o First Baptist Church, Post Office Box 908, Griffin GA 30224, in memory of Mr. Nixon.
