  Mr. Roy Lee Nixon, Sr., age 77, of Griffin, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.
  Mr. Nixon was born on July 30, 1929 in Randolph County, Alabama. He was the son of the late Jim Shaw Nixon and the late Emily Louise Peaden Nixon. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
  Mr. Nixon proudly served in the 1st Battalion 505 P.I.R. of the elite 82nd Airborne Division from 1944-1952. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5448, Griffin, GA. He served as the All-State Post Commander from 1975-1976, All American District Commander from 1978-1979, Assistant Inspector General in 1981, National Aide-De-Camp from 1981-1982, and State Jr. Vice-Commander from 1982-1983.
  Mr. Nixon is survived be his loving wife of 55 � years, Eleanor (Martin) Nixon; children, Roy Lee Nixon, Jr. of Macon, Sharon (Nixon) and Mike Smith, and Stephen Nixon, Sr., all of Griffin; grandchildren, Carrie (Nixon) and Stanley Stephens, Natalie (Nixon) and Shane Toland, Allyson Nixon (and George Groeller), Melanie Smith, Stephen Nixon, Jr, all of Griffin, Lori (Nixon) and Chris Gales, Christopher and Jessica Nixon, all of Macon, Christi (Nixon) and John Kea, of Dublin, and Denise Smith, of Kennesaw; 9 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, 1 sister, and several nieces and nephews.
  Graveside services for Mr. Nixon will be conducted on Friday, December 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery. Reverend Gene Walton will officiate. Friends may visit the family Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
