 "Caroline Charlotte came to America in October 1885 on Tingvala Lingen (a steamship line) and went directly to Brainerd, Minnesota. On 2 April 1886, she was married to Christian Johnson of Brainerd, by Rev. Krogstad, at the home of mutual friends, Anton and Lena Gilbertson." (pg. 10)
 "In 1886, Dad met our mother, Caroline Charlotte, who had recently come from Oslo (then called Christiania). Mother arrived in New York City and came directly to Brainerd to the home of Mr. & Mrs. Anton Gilbertson. Lena Gilbertson and Mother had been friends in Norway and Lena sent Mother money for passage to America, which Mother later repaid. . . .Mother and Dad were married at the Gilbertson home, 420 Bluff Avenue South, Brainerd, Minnesota. (pg. 11)
 Until the winter of 1893, they lived in St. Paul, Minnesota, in the Como Avenue vincinity, where Dad also worked for the Northern Pacific Railway Company. Inga, Mamie, and Edwin were born there.
