Note: 1870 Census--enumerated as Hepsie Cherry, age 17, born Indiana w/husband & her parents 1900 Soundex--Enumerated as Hepsy R. Cherry b. Sept 1853, Indiana. From Nelda (Cherry) Morton: Mrs C. C. Cherry Rhoda Hepsibah King was born in Johnson County, Indiana, Sept 4, 1853 and passed away at her home in Norwalk, Iowa on January 10, 1937 at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 6 days. In the year 1856, when she was three years old, she moved with her parents to a farm near Lothrop, Warren Co., Iowa, coming by covered wagon. Here she grew to womanhood. In the year of 1870, she was united in marriage to Christopher Columbus Cherry. To this union were born 10 children, 6 girls and 4 boys, 8 of whom are still living. One child died in infancy and a daugther, Clara Morris, died in 1920. The surviving boys are Allen Cherry of Wick, Frederick Cherry of Des Moines, Guy Cherry of Clear Lake and the girls are Minnie Burlingame of Norwalk, Dora Friedlein of Perry, Missouri, Helen Reinholdt of Martensdale, Margaret Wheeler of Prole and Lillian Williams of Pueblo, Colorado. Besides her children, she is survived by her husband, Tom Cherry, 28 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs Cherry is the last of a large family of children. She was a member of the Norwalk Christian Church. Mrs Cherry wrote her own obituary some time before her death, also requested the text and hymns and picked the pallbearers. Services were held at the Norwalk Chritian Church Wednesday afternoon, January 13th, conducted by the Rev. A. N. Simpson. Interment was at the Linn Grove Cemetary.
