Note: First moved from Bedford Co., Pennsylvania to Richland Co., Ohio in 1828 with his wife and eldest child, Joseph. He then moved to Crawford Co., Ohio, remaining there for the rest of his life. * On January 16, 1808, Richland Co. and what is now the western portion of Ashland Co. were created and placed under the jurisdiction of Knox Co. until the legislature thought proper to organize it. The county seat, Mansfield, was laid out on June 11, 1808 by James Hedges, Jacob Newman and Joseph H. Larwill. On September 29, 1817, by a treaty made at the Maumee Rapids, the remaining portion of Ohio under Indian domination, was ceded to the United States, and immigration began to pour into the "New Purchase." On the 20th of February, 1820, the General Assembly of the State passed an act for the "erection of certain counties" out of this vast tract of wilderness, and Crawford was the seventh in order out of the fourteen counties created. The eastern tier of townships formerly belonging to Richland County, Auburn, Vernon, Jackson and Polk, were surveyed by Maxwell Ludlow, in 1807. The remaining territory was surveyed in 1819, by Deputy Surveyor General Sylvanus Bourne. I am curious as to who your great grandfather is and the book you have. Solomon Lochbaum is part of my branch too and I can't find dates or much information on him. I'd like to hear what you have if you are still researching. Thanks, Linda Lbery@@aol.com * Major Co., Oklahoma Queries http://www.rootsweb.com/~okmajor/majq.htm Dr. Terry R. Conley - tconley@@frodo.okcu.edu I am trying to learn more about my great-grandfather Charles Conley and his sister, Mrs. Josie Laughbaum. Both came to the Fairview area and homesteaded land near Cedar Springs about 1898. Mrs. Laughbaum died in Fairview in 1918, and I have her obituary from the file at the library. Charles Conley died in 1935 (exact date uncertain) and is buried in Fairview Cemetery in the same plot as my grandparents, Lou Conley and Grace Conley, as well as my uncle Ebert Conley. I was in Fairview recently and was unable to find any information about Charles Conley from the obituary file, and the microfiche for the 1935 newspaper appears to be incomplete. If any person has information regarding Charles or Mrs. Laughbaum I would be happy to hear from you. * Subject: Re: MyFamily Site Listings Contact Date: 11/15/2006 7:55:16 A.M. Pacific Standard Time From: JFBankson To: VCJFreeman Good Morning Valerie, I have been away from any genealogy for a couple of years while we moved to a retirement place, and am just now turning the pages again. I am from the Solomon Lochbaum line, which was the second wife of Joseph, I believe. I have a couple of questions which you may have the answer to. I had two wives listed, neither of whom we have the last name for. But when the Lochbaum, Nine Hearts Artist Fraktur came that was a fraktur which appeared to be for his own daughter Anna, born in 1771 - the earliest fraktur I have seen attributed to him, and a new child on my list. Were both marriages and all the children born in Franklin County? I know there was a move to Bedford County, where Joseph died. We have visited there looking for his burial site, but so far nothing. We live closer to Franklin county and it is not difficult to get there for research, but I just have not focussed on what needs to be done there. Any requests? ALSO, in reading Joseph's will, 1 dollar to each of his three original children - (which I guess answers my question about Anna?) with the comment and I consider them not to be entitled to any more of my estate..." then he goes on to leave the property to his four sons and wife. Any clue why that would have been that way? Anyhow, just random thoughts as I return to the land of the long-gone. Good wishes to you and your family, Judy Bankson
