A memo written by Horatio Thurston Laughbaum, son of Nancy Pfeifer and Henry Laughbaum, in Oklahoma City Oklahoma 23 Aug 1944.........
After the wheat was threshed in 1846, Johann Peter Pfeifer started with a load of wheat for Milan, Ohio. He left home on Monday, and Tuesday when he came to the Milan hill he put a chain between a frontand back wheel to lock them so they would slide going down the hill. He was walking beside the wagon when the chain broke and hit him on the head and also broke a leg. They brought him home and he died on Friday. His Eldest son, Johann Peter, Jr., went after the team and got home on Sat to find his father had died, a farm accident.
