 Patrick County was created in 1791 (by an act of Virginia Assembly passed on November 26, 1790, to become effective on June 1, 1791) when Henry County was divided in two. The name comes from Patrick Henry, first governor of the Commonwealth. Patrick County, located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, offers residents a complete life with expanding opportunities in employment, education, religion, recreation and cultural pursuits.

 Absolum and Jane Cochran Arrington came to Heard County, Georgia in
 1840 from foothills of Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. They settled
 near New Hope Church and Town Creek. Their children were namely: Nancy,
 Susan, Isham, John, Daniel, Charles, Marshall, David, and Sarah
 Arrington. Later in 1840 Isham and Mary Via Arrington came to join their
 parents in Heard County. They purchased farm land on Georgia-Alabama
 State Line about two miles south of Omaha, Alabama. One son, William
 Anderson Arrington volunteered for services in War Between the States and
 died of disease there. Other children of Isham and Mary Via Arrington
 were: John J., Silas A., Mary, Charles, George, Elizabeth and Sarah
 Arrington. The family worshipped at Big Springs Baptist Church. Isham
 and Mary together with five of their children were buried in the cemetery
 at Big Springs.

  Includes a transcript of tombstone inscriptions from Big Springs Cemetery, Randolph County, Alabama, which is located near Omaha, Alabama. The church is of brick, with a white steeple, in a rural setting (cattle in adjoining fields).
  John Arrington (1770/1775-ca.1849) married Susannah Bolling in 1786 in Amherst County, Virginia, and was possibly a son of Kneaves Arrington and a grandson of William Arrington. Absolam Arringon (ca.1798-1872/ 1880) was a son of John and Susannah, and married Jane Cochran in 1817 in Franklin County, Virginia. Absolam and his family later moved to Patrick County, Virginia and by 1850 to Heard County, Georgia. Descendnats and relatives lived in Virginia, Georgia, Alabama and elsewhere.
