Hi Valerie - I have a double tie to the Cates family.
My ancestor Marthenia Hassie Adamson married Alexander Cates in 1876, they are both buried at Mt. Zion Bapt. Church Cem., Morrow, GA.
My ancestor Susannah M. Cook married Green B. (Greenberry?) Cates in 1874, they are buried in the Forest Park Cem., Main St., FP, GA. Forest Park is just north of Mt. Zion Cem.
I do not know the parents of Alexander Cates; he was b. 7-5-1855, d. 2-6-1929. I have the book "All Known Cemeteries in Clayton Co, GA" and I see many Cates buried at Mt. Zion, as you said.
The parents of Greenberry Cates is Romulus Sanders Cates & Lucinda E. Reeves.
Which Cates family are you researching? I have quite a lot of data in my Family Tree Maker. I lived in the area most of my life, have only been in FL for 5 years, so I am familiar with the cemeteries, etc.
The books First Families of Henry County, Georgia; and History of Clayton County, Georgia 1821-1983 show many Cates family members. I purchased these books from the Henry and Clayton Co. Genealogical Society, McDonough, GA, of which I am a member. I can give you their address & tel. number if you want it.
The Cates families in Clayton & Henry counties were numerous, this was a large family network. They are buried in several cemeteries.
  Yours in genealogy,
  Linda James Farley
Palmetto, FL, formerly Clayton Co, GA
