He was on the roll of the company on June 1, 1862, and September 1, 1862. He was discharged May 14, 1863, on a surgeon's certificate. He was described on the certificate at the time of his discharge as having been born in Monroe County, Georgia twenty-five years earlier , standing five feet six inches tall and having dark complexion, black eyes and black hair. In his application for a pension, filed in 1901, he said his family then consisted of himself, a nine year old son, and daughters aged 16 and 18. He was at that time suffering from general debility and was emaciated, weighing only one hundred pounds. He and his wife were on the first membership list of Big Springs Church. The deceased was sixty-nine years old and had lived in that community over fifty years, and was one of our best citizens. He had been a member of the Baptist church forty years. Funeral services were conducted at Big Spring n Saturday evening by A. J. Green, after which the body was laid to rest.
