2. Source:   Nancy Gilmer found the widow filed a claim 23 Mar 1863 at Buchanan, AL (Confed. Archives, Chap 10, File 26, page 27.) stating he was a private in Co. A. 59th Regt. AL Infantry.

a. Note:   JOHN TOLIVER DAVIS, was the third son to join Co. A. 2nd Battalion of Hilliard's Legion, having joined on April 5, 1862. He was on the June 1, 1862 and September 1, 1862 company rolls. He died at home on 5 October 1862
