Adamson * "Weaver - Worley Geneology" editied/compiled by Jerre Anne Pennington Dulock pg. 219: by Vera Cates Fox "In the early part of the eighteenth century my great grandfather, who was a farmer and who lived at Forest Park, Georgia, and whose name was Isaac Cates married Renie Crow. To this union were born several children, one of whom was my grandfather, Isaac Monroe Cates. After growing to young manhood, my grandfather migrated to the Marysville-Gainesville area of (Cooke Co.) Texas and there met and courted a young lady named Permelia Amanda Worley (she was one of several children of Ambrose Worley). Here they started their family which was to grow to thirteen children. The first three boys, Ed, Thornia, and Walter were born at Marysville, Texas. It was here that my grandfather became a member of the Pony Express, a group of men who carried the mail on horseback through hostile Indian territory. His route started at Gainesville and extended to Tishominog, Oklahoma, a distance of 60 miles. On several occasions the Indians made life miserable for him, and during these times his very life depended on the fleetness of his horse and the hardness of its rider..." * Subj: Cates family information Date: 11/17/02 9:46:20 PM Pacific Standard Time From: troyaj@@attbi.com To: troyaj@@attbi.com Hello, My name is Troy Allen Johnson and I am searching for information on the family of William A. Cates. I am the son of Joanne Cates Johnson, daughter of George Inman Cates and Nettie Bess Goodman of Clayton County, Georgia. George Inman Cates was the son of Sarah Elizabeth Tanner and Yancey Marion Cates of Clayton County, Georgia. Yancey Marion Cates was the son of Isaac A. Cates and Syrrena Crow of Clayton County, Georgia. Isaac A. Cates was I think, the son of Sarah Berry and William A. Cates of Orange County, North Carolina. At this point Ive hit a brick wall searching for Isaac A. Cates' father so Im basically looking for any information you have. From some information Ive seen online, you appear to have information going back much further, and I would be very grateful to get your input. Thank you, Troy Allen Johnson * Subj: Re: Cates Research Date: 2/27/03 11:17:36 AM Pacific Standard Time From: LFa2131906 To: VCJFreeman I found some of the family buried at Tanners Road Bapt Church Cem., Ellenwood, Clayton Co., GA, such as Isaac, b. 12-27-1823, d. 2-8-1891, wife Syrrena, 3-20-1828, d. 7-27-1903.
