  Dear Valerie,
I have recently begun to research my Hunt family geneology. I came across
your information on the Joyner-Freeman Tree in Ancestry.com.
I am interested in the info you show for Miles N. Hunt and Martha Cates. Miles
 N. Hunt is my great great grandfather and I have reason to believe that he
was married to Martha Cates and they had three children: M.E. Hunt(probably
 Mary), E.O. Hunt(Edgar O. my ancestor), and S.W. Hunt(Samuel W.).
The US 1860 census for Clayton Co., GA p 74 lists an E.M. Hunt age 26 a teacher and
presumably his children M.E. Hunt age 5, E.O. Hunt age 3, and S.W. Hunt age
1 apparently living in the household of an E. Gray(could be Gwy) age 48
female. The listing for E.M Hunt should read Miles M. or Miles N. Hunt I
believe. The 1870 and 1880 census comfirm that these are my family because
the dates and names of the children match except the father's name is Miles
 M. (or N.)Hunt. The mother is not in the household and is probably deceased.
The Mortality tables for the census of 1860 lists an N.C. Hunt age 26 female
from Clayton Co . GA having died of fever in June of 1860. This could well
be read as M.C. Hunt since M's and N's are sometimes hard to distingush in
the census rolls. Perhaps this is Martha Cates Hunt. I am very interested in
finding my great great grandmother and any information you have including
the source of the information on the marrage of Miles N. Hunt to Martha
 Cates would be greatly appreciated.
  Sincerely,
  Larry Hunt

  Dear Valerie,
I was able to visit the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery today and was able
to locate Miles Hunt's grave with out much difficulty. The headstone was
quite corroded so I had some trouble reading it. I cound read his birth
date (May 20, 1833) but could only read his death date as June 29 with the
year as undecipherable. Martha Cates grave was presumably right next to
Miles but all I could read on the stone was "Cates". The other letters did
not look like Martha but I can not be sure. I hope to go back soon with
some film and see if I can take a high contrast photo that will reveal
more. This is the first time I have known Miles birthdate etc so I
appreciate your info about where he is buried. I will record the data on
William A. Cates who is buried there since he is my gggrandfather.
  Regards,
  Larry Hunt

Miles N. Hunt(b May 20,1833 in Ga) married Martha Cates 12 Dec 1854 and they had, according to the 1860 census, a girl M.E.age 5, a boy E.O. age 3 and a boy S.W. age 1. E.O. Hunt is my gggrandfather. I'm looking for Miles Hunt's parents. He should be listed in the 1850 census as a 15/16 year old boy which should give me info on his parents but so far I haven't been able to find him. Miles is buried at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery near Morrow, Clayton Co. His wife is probably buried next to him but only Cates can be read on the stone. Miles died June 29 but the year on his headstone is not clear. I hope to take pictures to try to recover the dates. Any info anyone has would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have Martha Cates married Miles N. Hunt with Martha CATES as daughter of William A. CATES (1799-1871) and wife Salley BERRY (1796-1870) (married July 26, 1817, Orange CO, NC). The CATES/CATE family came to Georgia from Orange County, North Carolina--a possible place to check for your HUNT? Some of this family is found in Henry County, Georgia--another place to check for your HUNT?
Wm A. CATES was son to Robert H. CATES (b. 1760) & wife Betsy Blalock (b. 1767)...and Robert as son of Thomas CATE (1738-1817 Orange, NC) and wife Elizabeth FUSSEL...and Thomas as son of John CATE and wife Margery.
According to my notes, William A. & Salley Cates are also buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Clayton CO GA. I am connected to this family through William's son Romolus "Sanders" CATES (1819-1896) buried New Home Missionary Baptis Church Cemetery, Moreland, Winston County, Alabama (tombstone reads :R. S. CATES) found at ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/al/winston/cemetery/newhomemiss.txt
Carlton & Lana Floyd's article on the family of William A. CATES in the book "First Families of Henry County, Georgia" (1998), p 109 lists the names of the children including Martha CATE b. 1834, m. Miles N. Hunt.
You may try to contact Carlton & Lana Floyd for more details.
We have just posted Bible Records of William A. CATES's grandson named William David CATES on the Henry County, Georgia web page where the Bible listed on page 2 "William CATES born Aug 7, 1799 (grandfather of William D. Cates), etc.
I hope this information proves helpful for you. Sorry I don't have infor on your HUNT lineage, but I have quite abit more on CATES should you be interested.
  Sincerely,
 Judy & Jimmie
