Note: Subj: Brigman family tree Date: 9/19/02 5:45:14 PM Pacific Daylight Time From: jwcroft@@swbell.net To: vcjfreeman@@aol.com The Mary Arthula who was the second wife of Malcolm (Malcomb, according to Cherokee Cty records) was actually Mary Arthula Croft, daughter of John Washington Croft and Esther Oliver. She can be found in 1850 census, Cherokee County, Texas under Mary A. Croft, age about 20, born Tennessee in the household of J. W. (looks like T. W. in images) Croft, born 1801 Virginia. Her marriage to Malcomb Brigman is of record in the early Marriage Records of Cherokee County, TX. She remarried a Meadows from Cherokee County after Malcomb died. He then died. Aunt Arthula died a widow in Maypearl under the name Arthula Brigman in 1818, I think. There was a death certificate. Hope this is helpful. John W. Croft. ==================== Subj: Mary Arthula Croft Brigman /[Meador/Meadors/Meadows] Date: 9/22/02 7:28:30 PM Pacific Daylight Time From: jwcroft@@swbell.net To: VCJFreeman@@aol.com Am back at my computer now, and will pass on some more Brigman info. Birthplace--Tenn Father, Jno Croft, born Tenn(?) [actually VA] Maiden name of mother, don't know Birthplace of mother, Tenn (?) [perhaps; her name was Esther Oliver] Informant--J. B. Brigman, Maypearl, Texas Hope this is helpful. Thanks for offer of info exchange. Do you know anything about Arthula? She was my great-grandfather's sister; my father knew her, called her Aunt Arthula or Aunt Thulie, and visited with her in Maypearl about 1905. I am sure "Malcolm" is correct, but marriage records of Cherokee County call him Malcomb. John. ----------------------------------- Subj: More about the Brigman family Date: 10/13/02 11:04:05 PM Pacific Daylight Time From: jwcroft@@swbell.net First, it is the death certificate that states that Mary Arthula was born in 1828. The 1850 census lists her as age 20. The Ellis County TX 1910 census shows her in the household of John M. Brigman, as Arthula, "M" [for mother], age 79, birthplace Tenn. [By the way, John had a bunch of kids living with him and wife, Mary. A., in 1910.] ----------------------------------- Subj: Re: Mary Croft Brigman's age in 1850? Date: 10/14/02 8:06:05 AM Pacific Daylight Time From: jwcroft@@swbell.net To: VCJFreeman@@aol.com Valerie, You got me; you are right. 1850 Census says age 20; 1910 Census says age 79; death certificate shows no date of birth, but that she died on November 23, 1918 at age 90.
