His father, Isaac, was born in Clayton County, September 4, 1857 and his mother, Mattie, also was a native of this region. The mother, Mattie C. Bailey, died at the birth of her third child when "Zach" was only four years old. Later Mr. Bailey married Rosa Cates (sic - s/b Misulaney L. Cates), the sister of his former wife. An interesting thing about Isaac N. Bailey was that he owned the land where the now famous Stone Mountain carvings thrill thousands each year. His home was built in the foothills of the solid granite mountains, and he farmed the lush valley land in this scenic area. Around 1880 he traded this "pile of stone," as he called it, for a shotgun and headed for Texas in a covered wagon containing his household goods and the family. They first settled near Paris, Texas. In later years Isaac Bailey migrated to Hardeman County and died here in 1910 after only one year in his new home. He was laid to rest in the Big Valley cemetery. * vcjfreeman63 5/4/2011 2:42 AM GMT I would like to trade info with you on Isaac and Martha. Do you have any info on the family after they moved to Texas? Isaac married 2nd - I think to Martha's sister, Misulaney L. Ca... - - - 5/5/2011 10:58 PM GMT I have to double check some things. I am not sure about the second wife. I thought it was Mary Rosa Cates, but her age at death appears to be only 10. Isaac is my 2nd great-grandfather. I will go back through my notes and get back to you. Kerri - - - From: kerrileebailey@@hotmail.com To: vcjfreeman@@aol.com Sent: 6/23/2011 8:49:01 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time Subj: Isaac Bailey Valerie, I am not sure if I responded to you. I do have a book that references Isaac. The author has been very nice and helpful. He was researching a book on outlaws of the west. He ran across an indictment for murder against Zachariah (Uncle Zack) Bailey but was not convicted. He wasn't able to find any information. My Grand Uncle (his nephew) was able to fill in the gaps. Apparently Uncle Zack was having a heated argument with a neighbor over the fence between their properties. The neighbor sent his son to go get his gun. Uncle Zack sent his son to fetch his gun. Either Uncle Zack's son was faster or he was a better shot. It was considered self-defense. It didn't hurt that he was a prosperous member of society. Anyway, the two pages come out of the book. The last picture is also out of the book. My paternal Grandfather, Zack, is the 4th from the left on the top row. His brother Eric is the 5th. The older man to the far left is my Great-Grandfather John Thomas Bailey. He was also a son of Isaac. How is Isaac in your tree? Let me know how your search goes. Kerri
