Kelley by: Frances Prestridge Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/yc.2ADE/99.3 Message Board Post: JOHN PRESTRIDGE was commissioned Captain of the 549th Militia District of Fayette County on March 30, 1830. The 549th District would have contained the North Half of the Seventh Land District of Fayette County. His commission can be found on microfilm at the Georgia Archives, Drawer 40, . Look for the microfilm roll which would include 1830.( I believe Roll 8, but do not have source close to hand.) I have transcribed most of the officer's commissions 1822-1862 to include in a work on Militia Districts of Fayette County, Georgia and have no information on any Prestridges other than this being included in my spreadsheet. According to the book, that section was in the land used to create Union Co. in 1832. All lots from the 1832 land lottery were listed as being in Cherokee County. Immediately after the lottery, the land was divided into 9 separate counties: Cass (later renamed Bartow), Cherokee, Cobb, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Paulding and Union. Participants in the Georgia Land Lottery of 1832 (AKA The Cherokee Land Lottery) must have been residents of Georgia for at least 3 years. Revolutionary soldiers were given extra draws. Participants registered in their home counties; the draws were held in the then-state capital of Milledgeville. Fortunate drawers paid a grant fee of $18. Source: Smith, James F. Pacific Standard Time From: HalPrestridge@@aol.com To: Prestridge@@yahoogroups.com Okay here is my new topic...to search for the wife of John III or John of Fayette County. First I think there are going to be a few bumps along the way because we all know we've had problems in the past with unmixing the several Johns that were all living at the same time. My first question goes out to the John III researchers. Has anyone looked seen this? Marion Co., Misc Records, p. 292. Ordered that John Prestridge be granted letters Testamentory on the estate of William Allen, deceased of Marion Co., 22 day of May 1815. My first instinct, after having to deal with estates recently is the Letter of Testamentory. Having accuired two of these, one for my mother and one for my Aunt, I can tell you that this letter gives the Executor the power to handle the estate of the desceased. Since at this time I don't have any Allens in my data base, my first thought is that William Allen must have been the father of John III's wife. If he is then we know that John III's wife's last name was Allen. Has anyone looked at this will of William Allen or documents about him? - Hal
