I've got the Heard County marriage books done by the Historical Society coming one day soon, I hope. Am checking every avenue to make sure this is my Uncle Jim, but for now, it just seems to close to not be him. I"ve checked all the other Thompsons in Heard County in that time frame and there are no others even remotely close to "J. R." so am more than 99.99% sure it had to be Uncle Jim.
His full name was James Robert Thompson. His parents were Abraham Thompson & Martha Elizabeth "Patsy" Adams Thompson. Abraham & Patsy were my great grandparents and Uncle Jim was a brother to my grandmother. Uncle Jim and ggma Patsy are both buried at Salem UMC in Heard County. Ggpa Abraham wasn't buried there. He died during the CW and was buried at Richmond, VA in the Confederate Cemetery at Hollywood near the Confederate Monument. Uncle Jim's first wife was Mary Sarah Hardy. Uncle Jim is buried next to his infant son, according to the cemetery book for Heard County but that infant son was a twin. The other twin lived until about year old. Uncle Jim & Aunt Mary had started their migratory move to Cleburne County, AL when the surviving twin died. They were about halfway between Heard & Cleburne when that happened so they turned the wagon around, went back, and buried that child in the SAME grave as the twin who died within moments after birth. Then, they turned the wagon around again and headed back to Cleburne County, AL where they lived for about 10 years and then moved on to Erath / Eastland counties of TX. After aunt Mary died in 1909, Uncle Jim came back to Heard County, GA.

I did find two marriages for J.R. Thompson. He was married to Minnie Pope ( 13 Mar 1910 ) and to Kansas Jones ( 23 Jan 1911 ).
