Clovernook, the towering Victorian home of L. Lanier was built in 1888 at 208 N. 18th St, Lanett after the Lanier family sold their home on West 8th St and 2nd Avenue, West Point to W. L. Williams, who made it into Hotel Virent.
A new Clovernook was built in 1918 after the old house burned. The nearby home of George H. Lanier, Sr., son of L. Lanier, burned in 1941 and he moved into the later house where his mother, Mrs. Ada Huguly Lanier, had died in 1939. Clovernook is now (1973) the home of Mrs. George H. Lanier, Sr.

  Hello,
I have a large data base of the Laniers who are descendants of my gr gr grandfather Benjamin Wilkes Lanier and his brother Edward Alexander Lanier who came into Coosa, now part of Elmore county, Alabama about 1842. Every now and then I run up on Laniers in the Central Alabama area that are not from my line and have always wondered what their ancestry was and how we are connected. I've seen the name Lafayette Lanier several times in the area and have always wondered about him. In my wife's hometown, Tallassee, Alabama she grew up with a set of brothers named Lafayette and Lanier Golden, at least I think the last name was Golden.
My line goes back from Benjamin Wilkes through his father Benjamin, then another Benjamin, Thomas, Sampson, John, Clement, Nicholas. Do you have information as to where these lines are connected? My line came from Virginia, through Hancock Co., Georgia and then into Alabama.
  Would love to correspond.
  Andy Lanier
