  LANETT -- Mr. Bruce Nichols Lanier Sr., 89, of Lanett died unexpectedly Monday, Dec. 9, 2002.
  A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at Marseilles Cemetery in West Point with the Revs. Dan Garrett and Howard Merchant officiating.
  Mr. Lanier is survived by his wife, Jane Dickson Lanier; four sons, Bruce Jr., George, Louis and John; two grandchildren, Bruce III and Shannon Lanier; and one great-grandchild, Avary Lanier.
  Born June 11, 1913 in Lanett, Mr. Lanier was a graduate of Darlington School, of which he later served as a trustee. He was also a 1936 graduate of Washington and Lee University. After service in the Navy during World War II, he was employed by WestPoint Manufacturing Co. and then by Wehadkee Yarn Mills, of which he was president from 1946 to 1982, and chairman of the board from 1982. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Chattahoochee Valley Railroad, the Turner Halsey Co. and the First National Bank of West Point.
  Mr. Lanier was active as a member and director of several textile industry associations, including the National Cotton Council of America and the Carded Yarn Association, of which he was president. He received the Silver Beaver award for his lifelong support of the Boy Scouts of America.
  Mr. Lanier was a member of Spring Road Christian Church. He was the son of the late George H. Lanier Sr. and Marie Lamar Lanier.
  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Valley United Fund, P.O. Box 205, West Point, Ga., 31833, or a charity of the donor's own choice.
  The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 5 until 7 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point.
