Continued: William served during the Civil War as a private in Company A 76th Regiment Indiana Volunteers; enrolled 19 July 1862 at Greensburg, Ind for 30 days; mustered in August 20, 1862 Indianapolis. He received a pension for his service in 1915, as did his widow in 1921. The pension files include date of birth for William, Indiana, and their 7 children; William and Indiana's marriage date and their death dates; the names of William's parents: Robert Grant born Indiana & Louisa C. Bennett born Indiana. Noah Robert Arbie Grant was the only child of William and Indiana who has descendants. Four of William and Indiana's seven children never married: William Colver, Missouri Irene, John Forrest, and Rilva Ernest. Mary Louisa had one child who died at age 2.
