Grant, Feb. 1, 1919. Married 4th time to Rebecca Pottorff, 1883." Robert is found on the 1850 and 1860 censuses in Decatur County. In 1850, he is in Greensburg and gives his occupation as woolcarder. In 1860 he is in Adams Twp., next door to his father, and gives his occupation as farmer. He lists no real estate in either census. In 1860 he lists personal property valued at $300. Robert S Grant's marriage to Elizabeth M Rogers on May 1 1867 in Hendricks County, IN, is recorded in Book 6, Page 580. In 1870 Robert is listed in Sand Creek Township, Bartholomew County as a dry goods salesman with $310 of real estate and $100 of personal property. In 1870 Robert lists a child Samuel age 11. This is probably a step child, as no Samuel Grant is listed in 1860 or in the GFP. In the 1874 Directory of Bartholomew County, Robert is listed as a clerk with Springe and Co. in Elizabethtown, Sand Creek Twp. He had resided in Bartholomew County since 1861 and is listed as a Democrat and a member of the Christian Union Church. In 1880 Robert is the only Grant listed living with the Wm. Danforth family on Quaker Avenue in Elizabethtown. Robert is listed as a widower who is a clerk in a store. Apparently Robert was unfortunate in marriage, being widowed at least three times. In the 1850 and 1860 censuses Sarah Bennett born 1798 KY is living with Robert. She must be Louisa Caroline's mother and the widow of John C. Bennett b Feb 1798 d 9 July 1850. John and Sarah Bennett are buried near Louisa in the Methodist Cemetery in Greensburg.
