a. Note:   ilda made at least one trip back to Germany after her husband's death. Mathilde Gildehaus, age 35, sailed from Bremen aboard the German S.S. Hannover and arrived at Baltimore in September 1878 with her daughter Lilly age 9 ½, brother Carl Wülfing, his wife and four children, and Mary Lühr age 25, all citizens of the US and going to St. Louis. They were in the cabin section.
