Note: Born in 1858, Margaret Ella Macready Kline Stitcher was old enough to remember observing President Lincoln's Funeral Train, in 1865. She ran away from home, at age 15, and married a retailer, Morris Kline. The Baltimore native raised four children by Kline, Morris, Mynie, Mae and William. In Plainfield, Margaret belonged to the Eastern Star Order, Lydia Chapter 41. She also attended the Netherwood Reformed Church. A kind woman, she was inclined to feed transients who found their way to her back door, at 955 W. Front St., from the Jersey Central railroad tracks. Late in life, she broke her hip and was confined to a Morris chair, where her health declined. Partially deaf, she had great difficulty communicating her family stories to her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Marie Gray Stitcher. Eventually, the tales were lost. Upon her death in 1944, the Arbor Vitae Court 40, Order of Amaranth, held services at the Kaiser Funeral Home, in Plainfield. Her death certificate listed influenza, along with senility, as cause. Age given was, 85 years, 11 months and 13 days.
