Note: Harriot Stitcher married John Cockey Cromwell on March 28, 1811, per the Historical Society of Frederick County, Md. (See Cockeysville, Md.) John Cockey and Richard Colgate served in Col. Benjamin Nicholson's Baltimore Militia, on June 7, 1781. This per the S. Eugene Clements volume "The Maryland Militia." Ancestry.com files also has a Harriet Stitcher marrying Peter Thomas, b. October 17, 1793, and died in 1873. Peter's father was Gabriel, b. 1753, Adamstown, Frederick, Md. Peter's mother was Anna Marie Ramsburg, b. 1757, Frederick, Md. The Stitcher-Thomas marriage has been verified. It took place on January 22, 1828, in Frederick, Md. By one account, Harriot supposedly married John Cockey Cromwell, at the home of a Mr. Hoffman. THE SLADE GENEALOGY lists Harriot Stitcher as Harriet Head and has her marrying John Cockey Cromwell. I have listed John's siblings from this Slade website. Some dates for Richard Cromwell and Rachel Cockey differ, ie; Richard b. 1749-d. 1802, Rachel b. 1753-d. 1806. If Eleanor Colgate Stitcher, 2nd wife of John Stitcher, d. 1839, was the dtr of John Colgate and Elleanor (Ellen) Ashman (and sister of Edward Colgate) , the following is of interest. William Cockey, 1718-1756, m. Constance Ashman. One of the several Elizabeth Ann Slades (Betsey) b. 1738, m. Isaac Bull, (Jr.) 1727-1783. This is probably the older brother of William Bull, b. 1735, of Harford Md. Isaac's two sons, William and Jarrett, witnessed the Last Will of Jacob Stitcher, 1800. Possibly, John Cockey Cromwell's brother is the Captain Nathan Cromwell, that Stitchers followed into Pa., WVa and Ohio. Also, the Bull connection with Stitcher could have emerged from the Slade-Bull-Cockey connection. No Colgates were included in the Slade website viewed.
