a. Note:   Charles was the son of William Jennings and Elizabeth MacGill. On December 27, 1811, Charles' grandfather, Patrick Macgill, of Anne Arundel County, filed a petition to change the name of five minor grandchildren, from Jennings to MacGill. This occured because their mother died in 1809 and their natural father abandoned the children. His whereabouts were unknown.
