Note: From childhood recollections of Hazel J. Hobbs, Grand-niece: George was reported missing and presumed dead in World War I. Sometime around 1959, my grandfather, John Henry Davis Hobbs, received word from the Veterans Hospital in Alamosa, Colorado, that his brother, George, was a patient there. He was an amnesia victim and they had only recently discovered his identity. In August of 1959, my sister and I accompanied my grandparents on a trip to Alamosa, to meet George for the first time. He remembered names of his family members, and my grandfather brought him up to date on what had happened to their family during his absence. George eventually was discharged from the hospital and went to live with his sister, Ellen Day. Ellen took care of him until he died. The last time I saw Uncle George was at the funeral of my grandfather in 1970. He and Aunt Ellen had flown in from California (where they were then living).
