1810 census of Bourbon Co., Kentucky, James Vanlandingham has Males: one age 10/15, three age 16/25 and one over 45. Females: Two under 10, and one over 45.
James Vanlandingham must have been born around 1750 in St. Stephens Parish, Northumberland County, Virginia. The identity of James' father has not been determined, but James probably was at grandson of Francis who was born in 1666, son of Michael. Francis had a son, George, born in 1718, who had a son Henry P., born about 1748. Francis' son, Thomas, born in 1711, had a son, James, born about 1750. Henry P. and James may have been cousins. Evidence for this theory is found in the 1850 census; James' son, Merit, had William Vanlandingham, age 75, listed as a member of Merit's household. If James and Henry P. were cousins Merit may have allowed his 75 year old 2nd. cousin to live in his household.
