Notes
a. Note:   Benjamin Vanlandingham, ninth child of James Vanlandingham, was born about 1796/97 in Bourbon County, Kentucky. He married Elizabeth Nichols, probably in Bourbon County. Benjamin and two of his brothers emigrated to Boone County, Missouri, and at least one of the brothers received a Federal land grant in Boone County for service in the War of 1812.
Benjamin apparently came to Boone Co., Missouri in 1818. In an article about the death of Benjamin's great-grandson Forrest A. Vanlandingham in the "Columbia Missouri Statesman" 6 March 1952 the farm on which Forrest A. lived had been in the family since 1818.
In the 1830 census of Bourbon County, Missouri, page 578-288, there is a Ben Vanlandingham with family members as follows: Males: 1 under age 5, 1 age 30 to 40. Females: 1 age 10 to 15, 1 age 20 to 30.
 In the 1840 census of Bourbon County, page 85, Benj. Vanlandingham is listed with family members: Males: 1 under age 5, 1 - 10 to 15, 1 - 40 to 50. Females: 1 under age 5, 1 age 5 to 10, 1 age 20 to 30, 1 age 30 to 40.
James Vanlandingham was listed on the next line below Benjamin in this census record.
Census records of 1830 and 1840 list Benjamin's children as follows: 1. daughter born between 1814 and 1820 2. son born between 1826 and 1830 (Thaddeus?) 3. daughter born between 1831 and 1835 (Elizabeth?) 4. son born between 1836 and 1840 (John ?) 5. daughter born between 1836 and 1840 Boone County Will Packets have been indexed and microfilmed. The index from 1821 to 1870 lists "Vanlandingham, Benj. #439 - Adm. James Arnold, Admr. Gr. Oct. 26, 1841 F.S. May 12, 1849. Heirs - Elizabeth, wid; Thadeus, Oscar, Sarah Ann Elizabeth, Mary Erabolla, John Thos., Eleanor, & Benj. Vanlandingham". Census records show that Benjamin was the father of only five children, it appears that Oscar and Benjamin listed in the will were not children of Benjamin.
One son of Benjamin was John A. ? Vanlandingham, born 19 January 1838 in Boone County, Missouri, died in February 1916 in Columbia, Missouri. John A. had only one son, Herschel Laws Vanlandingham (1886/1929), who lived in Chicago, and had four sons: Vance Vernon, Clement Laird, Herschel Laws, and George Washington. Vance died in 1987 and George died in 1973. Clement still lives in Hillside, Illinois, and his brother, Herschel, lives in Rocky River, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. A son of Herschel, Paul H. Vallandigham, is an attorney in Urbana, Illinois 61801 with offices at 202 West Green Street.
